First Edition of THE CAT IN THE HAT was published by both 

 Houghton Mifflin, Boston as a school edition and by

Random House new York as a trade edition in 1957

 it was then renewed 1985 by Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P.

 

First Edition was a hard cover with 61 pages.

It contained no introduction or dedication.

The illustrations were also created by the author, Dr. Seuss.

They appear on every page as a cartoon drawing done with

 bold black ink and red and blue added color.

 

 

This is the first in a series of Beginner Books with the trademark

I CAN READ IT ALL BY MYSELF.

The appearance is attractive,  with bright,

colorful, humorous  illustrations and easy to read text

on every page. The text font is Times New Roman 24cm.  The paper is bright white and durable.

includes a zany illustration of The Cat balancing a fish bowl on
