Purpose

The purpose of this website is to connect interested individuals with the resources necessary to run a children's storytelling program or club. For the purpose of this project, we have generally defined "interested individuals" as public librarians, school librarians, educators, and storytellers. The information here is naturally applicable to many other types of people, and we encourage you to share it with anyone!

Scope

Our scope for this project has been one of comprehensivity balanced with selectivity. In that our goal has been to provide access or reference to information of the highest quality, the scope of this website naturally reflects that. Instead of a quantity-driven approach, here we have striven to highlight "the best" advice and resources while providing in-depth content.

Decisions about inclusion or exclusion of particular resources were made by the authors of this website. If you feel an unjust omission or addition has happened, feel free to tell us why.

Authors and Authorship

Contributors to this project include:

  • Carolyn LaMontagne is in her second year at GSLIS, working toward a combined MS in LIS and K-12 School Media Certificate.

  • Pat Morey is a social worker who is transitioning into a new career as a children’s librarian. She will be taking the long path and anticipates completing the program in 2006. Pat likes the outdoors, pets of all kinds, and getting children excited about reading.

  • Bethany Walk is in her final semester at GSLIS and will be receiving her Masters degree in December of 2004. Her favorite courses have included Storytelling and Children's Literature. She looks forward to starting her career as a children's librarian in January 2005.

This site has been created as a project for our Youth Services Librarianship class at the Graduate School for Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

While much of the content of this website has been generated by our own research, we do not claim authorship of the entirety of it. We have made it a priority to accurately cite particular resources we have consulted where applicable. For a complete listing of citations click here.
