Biting — The copying of style or technique in any element of hip hop
Bling bling — Jewelry that shines on sight, derived from the sound it makes
Boo — A term of endearment, like baby
Chill — To calm down/relax
Crib — The subject’s home
Crunk — To have a good time or to get crazy drunk
Crunk juice — A heavy drink, made popular by Lil John. A mixture of Red Bull and Hennessey
Def — A hip-hop superlative meaning especially good, now somewhat dated
Diss — To 'disrespect,' a put-down or insult
Dope — A superlative expressing approval
Flow — Style in which an MC both constructs rhymes and delivers them
Freestyle — Improvised rapping, often without music
Gangsta — A form of rap relating tales of criminal activitiy
Hardcore — A rough-edged variant of rap, often focusing on sex/crime narratives or harsh aspects of life in urban environments
Juice — Power, often electrical. Also sometimes used to signify 'respect' (see props)
MC — The master of ceremonies, later rapper (also referred to as an emcee)
New school — A somewhat confused term, initially invoked to describe Run-D.M.C.'s breakthrough in the mid-80s, but occasionally applied to anything contemporaneous
Old school — A term denoting the subject's early involvement in hip hop (generally considered to be from the mid-70s to the mid 80s)
Props — The 'proper respect' due to someone
Real — Real, not posing or faking
Sampling — The duplication of 'found sound,' be it from records or other media
Sucka free — Good rap, not bad music
Tag — Street name of a graffiti artist
Wack — Very bad, terrible
