Attraction of Princesses

"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all. "

~Mia's father in The Princess Diaries movie

With the release in 2001 of the successful Disney movie based on a series of books by Meg Cabot with the same name, The Princess Diaries has made young female royals quite popular. However, no one seems to have a definitive list, or at least a partial list of other books about princesses. Where is the "If you liked this one, you'll like..." list?

Mia Thermopolis, heroine of The Princess Diaries may not be a "butt-kicking princess" in the truest sense of the phrase, but she is no pushover. None of the women mentioned here are! What is it that makes these females so appealing? Could it be the crown? The power? Whatever it is, since the late 1990's there has been a growth in books about princesses. Look at both The Princess Diaries series and The Royal Diaries series. They are tremendously popular.

With no definitive answer on what makes these royals so interesting, the only thing left to do is read the different princess stories listed here and try to find out for yourself. Don't be fooled! Even if you aren't a fantasy or a historical fiction fan, there is a book for you.
