If your library has been putting on the same programs for decades, chances are good you have been working with the same people and groups to make your programs work. In these tried-and-true parnerships, each entity has its role and things probably run smoothly. However, there are dozens of organizations and individuals in your community who would love to share their skills with you. They might not even know that they have something to offer a library-sponsored program. So, walk door to door, make some phone calls, and partner up with some exciting organizations. Ideas for collaborations:
Talk to your chamber of commerce for lists of businesses who would be willing to aid your program financially or by donating supplies. Local nonprofit agencies might donate materials for door prizes or awards. Remember that you are primarily working with these other organizations to increase your library's services. Don't be shy about approaching different people with your ideas. If your program idea is great and they have the resources, they will want to help out. |
